When one thinks of All Hallows Eve, one probably thinks of pumpkins, apple bobbing, fresh cider and costume parades. Visitors to the Historic Village at Allaire will find all this and more when Allaire Village Inc., the non-profit Friends group, supporting the educational programming at the Historic Village, presents an 1830s All Hallows Eve Celebration.

Visitors to this living history recreation of 19th Century Halloween activities held in the restored iron works company town can bob for apples, take part in 19th Century games, and listen to traditional Halloween stories. Visitors to the Managers House can see cider pressing being demonstrated on the front lawn, using authentic 19th Century methods, or visit the kitchen where period recipes are being prepared. Perhaps tales of the macabre are more your taste, if so we invite you to visit our storyteller as she spins her tales of horror and enchantment. 

All are welcome to stroll the Village streets and visit the crafts shops where the Blacksmith's, Carpenters, Wheelwrights and Tin Smiths will be plying their trades. Bob for Apples at the Carriage House, while our coachman explains the various vehicles on display or visit the home of Jacob Johnson, the Howell Works Company Foreman. Don't forget to visit the General Store Museum Gift Shoppe where our latest addition to the Historic Village at Allaire Christmas Collectible Ornaments will be available for purchase. Of course, no visit to the Historic Village at Allaire on All Hallows Eve would be complete without a stop at the Howell Works Bakery for a cup of hot mulled cider and a cookie. The highlight of a visit to the Historic Village at Allaire is a call on the home of James P. Allaire himself. (All Hallows Eve is one of Mr. Allaire's favorite holidays and he has promised to be home that day.) 

Children are invited to paint their very own pumpkin in the coral behind the Barn while Mom learns more about hand quilting at the Gardener's Cottage. Pumpkins will be provided to the first 400 children and the times will be staggered to eliminate over crowding at the painting tables. Please check the event schedule that day for times as a limited number of pumpkin-painting tickets will be available at the gate. But plan to spend the day at the Historic Village because the focal point of the day long festivities is our annual Costume Parade and Contest. Children will gather on the Green adjacent to the General Store and parade through the Village streets, past the reviewing stand at Mr. Allaire's own front porch. There may even be a surprise judge. After the parade, children gather at the Charcoal Depot where prizes for the best costumes in age categories are awarded, as well as the grand prize for Best Costume Overall. The contest is for chlldren upto and including,12 years of age.
