Originally built in 1747 by George Marriner, a British ship designer, Our House was originally known as Marriner's Tavern. The spot rapidly became a favorite rendezvous for local farmers, politicians, travelers and even a band of outlaws known as the "Fagen Gang ." A member of that gang, Lewis Fenton, was even hanged on 23 September 1779 in front of the Tavern by members of Major Lee's Light Dragoons. Today guests can dine in the beautifully restored roadhouse; which even served as a stop off point for the stage lines that frequented the Howell Works; on dishes such as Chateaubriand, Stuffed Salmon Filet Ala Oscar and the popular Our House Long Island Duckling with Sweet Raspberry and Cranberry Chutney.
